Monarch's sire, Jervis of Rosvic was a grandson of Ch Toomai of Montfleuri and Ch Toy Boy of Toytown, who were both 13 inch Miniatures. Wychwood Gatesgarth Monarch was whelped October 5, 1953. He was very handsome and was an exaggeration of Poodle quality. He was a good black with long, lean head, small eye, low-set ears, well developed body, good tailset and extreme angulation. He consistently produced under 11 inches even when bred to full size miniatures.
 
 

Monarch sired a total of 8 champions. His black son, Eng. Ch. Tophill Toyboy was whelped January 1, 1957, the same year the British Kennel Club recognized the Toy Poodle as a separate variety. Toyboy exerted a strong influence on the Toy in England and abroad, including the American kennels of Clarion, Charade, and Foxmore.
